ItalDesign Giugiaro Parcour

OUTLANDISH ON-OFF ROAD CONCEPT FROM ItalDesign

This is one of the most interesting cars from the Geneva show. The Parcour is essentially based on the Lamborghini Gallardo and it uses the same 5.2-litre V10 engine that sends 550PS to all four wheels. The Parcour's party trick, however, is its go almost anywhere ability. The car uses a trick version of pushrod suspension where the pushrods themselves have been replaced by coilover springs which makes for a total of 8 springs. The car can now be raised upto a massive 330mm allowing it to be driven in offroad conditions and even on ice. Conversely the car can be dropped low for track driving. This suspension setup supposedly allows for stiffness when in track mode and a supple, absorptive nature when in offroad setting. It's an unsual concept and we can't help but spot some influence from the legendary Lancia Stratos.

Rolls Royce Wraith

QUITE SIMPLY THE FASTEST AND MOST POWERFUL ROLLS-ROYCE EVER MADE

Rolls-Royce Supernatural Cars Limited has a nice ring to it, does it not? Especially if you consider their model line-up comprises of cars named after supernatural beings. First there was the Phantom followed by the Ghost and now the Wraith. Safe to say then that the next Rolls-Royce will be named the Spook! Frightful however these cars are not. Each is a symbol of unparallelled luxury and opulence combined with state of the art technology to keep pace with the times and drivetrains that read epic numbers. 
The Wraith takes the old world goodness of Rolls-Royce and blends that with some cutting edge technology for the Chinese. It is, it really is. China is now the largest market for Rolls-Royce develops is based on what the Chinese want. And what the Chinese want is more horsepower to cruise down their mega highways to their factories that supply critical components back to Rolls-Royce.
So the Wraith gets the most powerful engine in the history of Rolls-Royce. The 6.6 litre twin turbo-charged V12 delivers 624 horses with 800Nm of torque. Yet, that monumental engine overshadowing everything else in the range isn't what's creating headlines. The real show stealer is the new transmission that utilizes GPS data to predict required gears depending on the terrain ahead. So elevations will make the 8-speed transmission drop gears to get an optimum gear while straights or downhill sections will keep a higher gear prepped.

Porsche 911 GT3

FASTER 911 FOR THE THINKING PORSCHE LOVER DEBUTS

Porsche, that German maker of fine sportscars draws a clear line between its naturally aspirated and turbocharged lines of the flagship 911. And the GT3 is the ultimate expression of the former in our eyes. A car you can drive everyday, have a great day at the track but keep the essential creature comforts around you. James Bond, we'd like to remind you for instance, does battle in handmade designer wear, not combat fatigues. The new 911 GT3 is out which means the most cerebral of the naturally aspirated 911S is now available. The fifth-gen car lapped the Nordschliefe under seven and a half minutes which means it is plenty quick in the right hands. Wearing a completely a new engine, transmission, chassis and body, the car will hit 100kmph in 3.3s and max out at 314kmph.
The big new thing is, this is a Porsche's first production car with active rear wheel steering. The rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front wheels at low speeds and then the other way to bestow agility and stability. The chassis itself is wider at the rear, has dynamic engine mounts and the new 20 inch forged alloys are mounted off central locking hubs rather than with conventional wheel bolts.
Then there is the body. It is a steel and aluminium dream that, says, Porsche is very light but incredibly stiff.
Under its a familiar but fresh lines lies the 3.8-litre boxer six. The six will rev to 9000rpm and at full chat makes 475PS. To make all that power, despite being based on the Carrera S, the engine received specially made(or heavily adapted) crankshaft, valve gear, titanium con rods and forged pistons. The transmission is a specially  developed dual clutch job with closer spaced ratios and the manual gearbox is no longer available on the GT3. And for those who think this isn't hardcore enough, there will be the GT3 RS that will follow, wearing a roll cage instead of an aircon.

McLaren P1

HYBRID SUPERCAR SET TO TAKE OVER THE LEGENDARY McLaren F1

  • 0-300kmph under 17 seconds
  • F1 style KERS and DRS button for more power and less drag

The difference between the finest chef's knife and a full-power chainsaw is that while both are the ultimate expression of cutting technology, the former is vastly more useful in daily life. A chainsawed chicken is an American horror flick. A finely chopped cockadoodledo, on the other hand can be life-changing. That, in essence, is the P1. The supercar that takes reality seriously. 
Which is why the initial plan of making 500 was pared to 375, a number better for exclusivity as well as to ensure the car is an appreciating asset. No, we are quite serious. Then again, this is the car that must top the McLaren F1 so the pressure on the P1 is immense. What it has is aerodynamics that make aircraft look under designed. from 0.34cdA at its slipperiest, the car will deploy a rear wing, flaps in front of the wheels to generate more downforce than te MP4-12C(by five times) and as much as some Le Mans racers. The P1 aims to be the fastest series production car around a circuit, period. 
The structure is carbon fibre, of course, just like the MP4-12C and the whole thing weighs just 1400kg, which is, to be honest, 260 kg more than the F1. The structure holds a specially cast 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol that makes 727PS and also adds a 176PS electric motor. That is 916PS and 900 Nm and this is important. The P1 hits 300kmph in under 17 seconds which means the MP4-12C will be left for dead. And the electric motor does more than just add power, it also makes the car's responses more electric, including supplying negative torque(subtract torque to unload the clutches, in effect) to make shifts smoother and faster and of course, it charges the batteries under braking as usual.
This is a reality focussed car, so you get all the usual bits inside but without too many buttons so it feels focussed. The interior trim is mostly naked carbon because clear coating adds weight. The carpet is, I am not kidding, optional. When launched, the McLaren F1 was the fastest. McLaren says the P1 is the same thing for 2013.

Lamborghini Veneno- Design&Features

THE NEVER LOSING BULL- DESIGN

As I promised, I am back with the Veneno's design&features.

Supercar design has much more to do with function these days than just pure aesthetics. With Lamborghini, design gets elevated to an altogether different planet where the element carbon is God. Put the two together and what you have is a car that has the most extreme aerodynamics in an ultra lightweight car. The massive ground effects are needed for better turn of speed through the corners, because unlike the past, modern Lamborgini's aren't just abou straight line performance and top speed alone, at least that's what Stephen Winklemann, CEO claims.
So that gigantic front wing that looks like it could mow a lawn to a micron thickness diverts air flow over the hood and windshield for downforce and it also provides better airflow over the tyres for more efficient brake cooling. Several birds, one wing! The underbody is smooth to further provide even airflow before a rear diffuser that frames four large exhaust pipes cuts it up to increase downforce and improve cornering grip. The massive rear wing is adjustable and between it and the rear diffuser manage optimum aerodynamics. The wheel arches too if you notice are asymmetrical in shape and there is a carbon fibre ring around the wheels that acts as a turbine to provide further brake cooling. So all those geometric shapes you see serve a higher purpose. Now most of Lamborghini's technologies have been derived from their motorsport program- the Super Trofeo series. The modifications done on the Veneno however are a first and thus it may be one of the few times that some of the technology showcased in this car will now filter down to Lamborghini's race cars.

Lamborghini Veneno

THE ULTIMATE EXPRESSION OF THE ZANY AVENTADOR

Hey there everyone! :)
I am back again with the all new Lamborghini Veneno.

Not all bulls lost bullfights, though that is really the only result the toreador wants. A bull that wins is a career-ending, er, event. Veneno from 1914 was one of the bulls that didn't just have heart, but it won. And that is the name Lamborghini  have extracted from their Bull Name Book for this car. What is it? Let us think of it as freedom. The designers of this car were given an Aventador to start work with but were then told that only three were going to be made, your Rs.21.42 crores, before taxes, are no good here- all spoken for. They would all be grey and each wearing one of the colours of the Italian flag as a stripe, and that they could take their beloved carbon fibre and go completely nuts. Success was achieved on all counts.
The engine is the same 6.5-litre V12 as the Aventador but it now makes 750PS through an optimised gearbox. Since the body is all carbon and the car is 125kg lighter than the Aventador, the suspension required only a little bit of tuning. And finally, the electric motor... let us get this straight. There is no electric motor and we will return to this topic in a bit. All told, this car will hit 100kmph in 2.8 seconds, top out at 355kmph. Sweet. 
The all carbon bodywork is incredible to look at.
The highlight is extreme downforce and a properly Lamborghini-scale outrageous design down to the giant central fin that blends into the massive wing at the back. But on the other hand, when you see the car in the flesh two things happen.
Once you get past how Mad Max 2350AD it looks, you realise that your eyes pinball from detail to detail over the bodywork and this makes it a tremendously tiring car to stand next to and admire.
But if you stop drinking the Sant'Agata moonshine and think for a minute, a number of things emerge.
First, Lamborghini is likely to be the last of the supercar makes to embrace hybrid powertrains which is why it's show surprise, for once, was far from the most powerful cars on the show.
Second, Lamborghini has traditionally snagged the showstopper car of any show they turned up at. This time the buzz on the sidelines was how bravely over the top the Veneno was rather than how amazing the car looked. Third, the refinement of the 499 LaFerraris stole the aggressive thunder of the three Venenos. Hell, we even that many thought that the Urus and the Sesto Elemento, both mere concepts, were more spectacular in concepts, execution and implication than the Veneno. In all these myriad ways, the Veneno was unprecedented. But not necessarily in a good way. That in, itself, is also unprecedented.

LaFerrari

THE MOST POWERFUL AND TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED SUPERCAR FERRARI HAS EVER MADE



  • First hybrid Ferrari ever
  • 6.3-litre V12 with 120kW motor makes 950PS and over 900Nm
The Ferrari  Enzo was a spectacular flagship and being the Ferrari flagship, had three things that were beyond spectacular- a sense of style that exceeded all expectations, performance that beggared belief and, because it was made in small numbers, exclusivity that guaranteed that its price would rise as the years passed. An expensive edifice to buy and then absolutely priceless to own. With the F150, Ferrari needed a car that could top that. And the LaFerrari, arguably, is all that and so much more.

Let us begin with what is new. The LaFerrari is Maranello's first hybrid, not unexpected in itself, but the result is incredible. The addition of a hybrid motor is well understood- lower emissions and greater economy- and in the context of a family hatch, there is usually a passing mention of the extra acceleration that comes when the electric motors kick in to help. But in the Ferrari, it isn't just a way to get around the Corporate Average Fuel Economy norms, it's a new weapon. The 6.2-litre V12 isn't a wilting lily, oh no. It makes 789PS, revs to 9250rpm. These are extraordinary  numbers- there was a Lamborghini which made 39PS less, if you think about it, at the show. But wait, then the 120kW electric motor(well, two of them, one drives the rear wheels, the other handles the ancillaries) kicks in which boosts power to 950PS and peak torque to over 900Nm. You can be sure that Ferrari will now allow this hybrid performance bonanza to infiltrate their other cars offering both greater economy and vast performance across the range. The LaFerrari is a high flying aircraft, that is barely a disguised spaceship- 100kmph arrives in under 3 seconds, 200 under 7 seconds and top speed is 330kmph. And they added HY-KERS, stolen off their own Formula One car. Excess torque from the engine as well as from braking causes the batteries to charge. Big engines are falling out of favour today and the supercar manufacturers to be sure cannot afford to have performance fall as result. The hybrid presents a convenient solution to all the problems and we will see more and more high performance cars adopt this route to greater performance, better economy as well as greener emission levels.
The batteries themselves are carefully located between the axles and low to lower the centre of gravity adding to the car's dynamics. The cabin layout itself aids handling. For instance, the seats are part of the structure and therefore not adjustable. Ferrari will build the car to fit you exactly, so why should you need adjustability? The steering and pedal box are adjustable so you can bring the car to you, as it were, once seated. All this shaves weight and makes the dynamics purer. How pure? Fiorano was dispatched in 1 minute 20 seconds, five seconds quicker than the Enzo and three ahead of the F12 Berlinetta.
Now enter Flavio Manzoni, Ferrari's design director since 2010, an architect who was responsible, for example, for the Lancia Fulvia Coupe concept as well as the Golf MkIV. He wrapped this incredible performance package in what has to amongst the most amazing shapes any Ferrari has ever worn. It uses four kinds of carbon fibre, all hand laminated and almost all of the skin has a role in the car's performance. Active diffusers adjust aerodynamics, control surfaces move to give the best possible downforce for going fast in a staight line or going around corners. And yet, unlike a certain other car at the show, the aggression is refined. Its rippling muscle wrapped in a luxurious designer bespoke suit, Rather than a scruffy, high performance hedgehog.
Only 499 of the car will be made and that seals it. This is an instant classic, something the creme de la creme will buy as much to keep the flaunt as for its performance and there will be few who will get one as an investment, to be sold later to a collector for untold gazillions. And they will ask only the one question when they come to Maranello to pick up their cars-"Really? LaFerrari? That's the name you came up with?"
